Although primarily focused on consumer protection, Financial Ombudsman Services embraces its broader social mandate by:
- Empowering Women and Youth:
In collaboration with ongoing programs led by key partners such as civil society organizations, development agencies, and government stakeholders, Financial Ombudsman Services implements targeted financial education initiatives aimed at equipping women and youth—especially from vulnerable and underserved communities—with practical money management skills. These programs are designed to strengthen financial independence, improve decision-making, and foster long-term economic resilience.
- Promoting Financial Inclusion:
Through strategic collaboration with key partners such as New Faces New Voices – Uganda Chapter, Financial Ombudsman Services actively supports the advancement of inclusive financial systems. Notably, the Women Leadership and Financial Inclusion three-year project, led by our partners, played a pivotal role in extending access to financial services among rural and marginalized groups—particularly women and youth. Funancial Ombudsman Services continues to build on this foundation by integrating inclusive approaches into its outreach, education, and grievance redress programs, ensuring no one is left behind in Uganda’s evolving financial landscape.
- Digital Safety and Financial Literacy:
Financial Ombudsman Services leverages strong partnerships within the fintech ecosystem to promote responsible and secure usage of digital financial services. Working closely with digital finance providers and innovation hubs, we have developed tailored training modules on the safe use of mobile money, digital wallets, and online financial platforms. In collaboration with KACITA, we successfully conducted training for 200 women entrepreneurs, equipping them with critical digital safety skills to navigate cashless transactions confidently. This initiative is part of our broader effort to curb fraud, reduce financial vulnerability, and promote trust in digital financial services across diverse consumer segments. - Inclusion in National Dialogues:
Ensuring the voices of ordinary financial consumers are represented in national policy discussions.
